A trade mark is used to distinguish the goods and services of one trader from those of another. A registered trade mark gives you exclusive rights to commercially use, licence or sell it for the goods and services that it is registered under.
Business name registration provides little or no protection from a competitor registering the same or a similar trademark. Accordingly, if your business name is very important – trademark registration should be obtained for that name.
